Constellations: HAA 2400 Special Topics Modern - Art and Science

Josh Ellenbogen

This class looks at intersections between the domains of art and science. Above all, it will examine the use of images in scientific practice from the Renaissance to today. It will consider how pictures have functioned as tools of investigation, as devices by which to disseminate information, and as a means not merely to illustrate knowledge, but bring it into being. It will also examine the ways in which the frontier between art and science has changed historically – the division between these domains in the Renaissance was vastly different than it is in the contemporary world.
