HAA 1922 Preservation Texts and Theory

(offered once a year)

Students will gain an understanding of preservation’s broader context of the changing built environment, the social, economic, and political forces that affect it, and tactics for bringing its history and meaning to light. In this official Arts and Sciences “W” course, students will engage, through extensive reading and writing, with important texts containing themes, ideas and points of view with which well-informed preservationists—and other practitioners concerned with the built environment—should be familiar. Angelique Bamberg, instructor of the course, is the author of Chatham Village: Pittsburgh’s Garden City (Pittsburgh, Pa: University of Pittsburgh Press, 2011). The course can be used towards completion of the new Preservation minor.
