What are the Digital Humanities?

Come and learn more about what the digital humanities are, and how art history is taking part in this scholarly movement.

The digital humanities can be loosely defined as a set of theories and practices that explore unique ways to use digital technology to develop academic scholarship. Scholars in the digital humanities often maintain a dialogue between traditional academic knowledge and new digital technology, either by creating and/or using digital tools to generate new knowledge about traditional fields of study, or by applying traditional academic scholarship to new media. At Pitt, the purpose of the fledgling DH research initiative, DHRX, is to foster and support innovative academic scholarship that takes advantage of the ways that digital technology can expand, reconfigure, and enrich our understanding of the relationship between academic inquiry and the social world.
