Isabelle Chartier majored in Classical Studies and Art History at the University of Montreal, where she also earned her Master’s Degree in 2008. Her thesis focused on the visual traditions of Ovid’s Metamorphoses in 18th-century French and Italian illustrated editions, in relation to Ovid’s text and its translations.

At the University of Montreal, Isabelle Chartier was assistant curator at the Centre d’exposition, the University’s art gallery, where she managed a collection of Quebec modern and contemporary art. Before moving to Pittsburgh, she worked in the Education Department of the Musée de Lachine in Montreal, creating public tours of the museum and site and teaching the Introduction to archaeology course.

Isabelle Chartier joined the University of Pittsburgh Art Gallery in 2010 where she led the Callot Project, inventorying and studying the Jacques Callot print collection. With the Department of History of Art and Architecture, she assists in the Museum Studies Seminars and supervises undergraduate interns for various projects related to the care of the permanent collection and the maintenance of the storage rooms in the gallery.

Her latest project consists in the implementation of Portal, a cross-departmental collaboration and multi-media installation by Aaron Henderson (department of Studio Arts), Michael Morrill (department of Studio Arts) and Mathew Rosenblum (department of Music), on view in the Rotunda of the University Art Gallery.
