Departmental Awards

The 2016 recipient of the John F. Haskins Award for Academic Excellence in Art History was Melissa Quarto. The 2016 Innovation and Excellence in Research and Leadership Awards were awarded to Meghan Hipple and Brianna Humbert, and the 2016 Faculty Commendation Awards were awarded to Emily Mirales and Grace Strong. Congratulations to all of these hardworking students!

Research Awards

Milton Fine Museum Profession Fellowships

The Department of the History of Art and Architecture Department would like to congratulate the winners of the 2016 Milton Fine Museum Profession Fellowships:

Mariah Flanagan will be working with Erin Peters, the Associate Curator of Science and Research, at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in the summer of 2016.

Abigail Meloy will be working with Janet McCall, Executive Director at the Society for Contemporary Craft for the 2016-2017 academic year.

Sonnie Soloman will be working with Eric Crosby and Hannah Turprin of the Modern and Contemporary Art Department at the Carnegie Museum of Art in the summer of 2016.

Through generous support from the Fine Foundation, three fellowships are available for majors of the History of Art and Architecture department interested in museum professions each year. Each participant receives a stipend of $3500 for the duration of the internship to assure their freedom from employment so that they can dedicate themselves fully to the intensive professional development experience. Application materials are due in early March each year and are reviewed by a faculty committee before the finalists are forwarded directly to the fellowship supervisors who select the winners.

Other Selected Distinctions

Ashley Funyak received a Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship in Museum Studies at the Rivers of Steel Foundation.

Max Stefan Poost received the G. Alec Stewart Award from the University Honors College.

HAAARCH!!!

The University Art Gallery and its cloister were abuzz with excitement on March 13, 2016 when the department held its fifth annual HAAARCH!!! showcase of undergraduate achievement, an event held every year in the spring semester. This forum provided students the opportunity to exhibit, present and promote their research and experiential learning activities. Read more about this year's showcase here.
