HAA 2005 Methods of Research

This seminar is introduction to the analysis of art as an historical and critical discipline. The course examines a wide range of art historical texts, surveying the practice of art history from a set of varied perspectives. In the process, students can expect to become familiar with the history of art history from the nineteenth century onwards and gain familiarity with current approaches to the discipline. The format of the class will be a discussion based on close reading of art historical texts. It is open to graduate students in art history and to students from Culture Studies with a strong interest in the visual arts.
