Fall 2011 Visual Media Workshop News

It has been a very busy year for the new Visual Media Workshop. The slide collection has been moved into storage, room 116 has been entirely renovated and all new computers have been installed in the lab. The new digital collections management system, based on the open-source project CollectiveAccess, has also been implemented. New images are being added daily and it will become a useful resource for the department very soon.

We have a number of other exciting projects underway, including the digitization of unique image collections donated by our faculty as well as an initiative to investigate new ways to display and interact with digitized and digital art objects in the classroom. In addition, training sessions now take place every week in which department members can become better acquainted with the tools in the Visual Media Workshop.

If you would like to learn more about the VMW, do not hesitate to drop by or write Alison Langmead, the Director of the Visual Media Workshop.
