Position Available: Lecturer (University of Pittsburgh, Department of History of Art and Architecture)

Position Description:

The Department of History of Art and Architecture at the University of Pittsburgh seeks to hire a non-tenure-stream Lecturer to advise and mentor undergraduate students and also to provide essential support for our innovative undergraduate curriculum. Our department has a dynamic, high-achieving undergraduate program supporting approximately 150 majors in Art History and Architectural Studies and a successful and growing minor in Museum Studies.

Working closely with the Director of Undergraduate Studies, advising duties for this position will include: holding individual and group face-to-face registration and advising appointments with undergraduates, maintaining statistical records for the undergraduate program, answering email queries promptly and thoroughly, overseeing the advising CourseWeb (BlackBoard) site, and ensuring fluid communication with students regarding research and award opportunities.  In addition, the departmental advisor is also responsible for organizing and coordinating HAAARCH!!!, an annual showcase of undergraduate research and creative activity. Teaching duties will include: conducting a yearly professionalization proseminar for the undergraduates in our program, teaching up to four (4) recitation sections each term for departmental large lecture courses (including holding office hours and grading as appropriate), occasional stand-alone sections of core and general education classes, and supporting the innovative pedagogical practices currently being developed within the department as requested; service duties will include: serving on the undergraduate committee; attending relevant department and university meetings; engaging in the active recruitment of undergraduates to the program; and other related duties appropriate to running and growing a successful undergraduate program in the History of Art and Architecture.

PhD required and a minimum of two years of teaching experience and one year of advising is expected. Area of expertise is open. We are particularly interested in attracting applicants with a strong commitment to outstanding, inventive undergraduate instruction. The starting date is September 1, 2017.
